What kind of reports can I see?

From the donor portal, donors can see reports for the current month of giving as well as past months. You can use these reports to for your tax purposes as well.

How to I obtain my tax receipt?

You can log on to the donor portal and print your reports. These will be your tax receipts. The nonprofit you made donation to may also send tax documentation.

Can I split my donations over multiple organizations or funds?

Sort of. But it might not work like you think it will. You can register one card with a nonprofit of your choice and register another card with a second nonprofit or fund you would like to donate to but you cannot split one credit card between multiple organizations or funds.

When I tried signing up I was asked to log into my bank… what the heck?

We place security as the utmost importance to you and your organization. Any financial data entered by donors (eg, credit card number, expiration date, account usernames and passwords) are passed in an encrypted format directly to our ultra-secure financial technology partners.  You are logging in directly to your bank in order to authorize them round-up of your transactions.  This is the most secure option because it gives the payment processing company access to just what they need without offering them your precious financial information. Your username, password, transaction details other than date and amount, etc. will not be given away or stored.

What if I don’t hit the minimum?

No problem! That amount will be added to the next month. The funds will be collected and donated in the month that you reach the minimum of $5 of round ups.

Why hasn’t money been taken from my account this month?

The most common reason is that you have not met your minimum of $5. But don’t worry, it will be added to the next month total.

When is my account charged for the round-ups?

Excellent question! Our technology partners wait until a few days after the last day of the month for all prior month’s transactions to clear. Once all the data is collected, you should see a charge near the 10th of the following month.

What kind of control do donors have over their donations?

Donors can make a one-time gift, set a maximum amount that will be rounded each month, and can choose which credit/debit cards are rounded. Donors even have control over which account their donations are charged to (credit, debit, or checking).

Can donors set a limit to the amount they give?

Donors are always in control. Donors can set a maximum amount to round up each month from their donor portal.

What happens if a purchase ends in $__.00?

Good question! Donors have a choice… either round-up $1.00 or do not round up at all. Donors can edit this setting in their donor portal.

FOR ORGANIZATION

Does a VBB cannibalize our other fundraising efforts?

We have not seen this happen among our clients. Actually, VBB reaches a particular audience, many of whom have never given. Typically, annual appeals and other campaigns are a “one & done” donation. The VBB is a continuous giving strategy. It’s been our experience that donors hardly miss the spare change and tend to give to other appeals when asked.

How can we get donors to sign up?

Just like any other campaign, donors need to be asked. Most donors are familiar with receiving messages by email, social media, text, etc. There are many ways to reach diverse types of donors and get them involved. This is where we come in. Our various marketing packages are specifically designed to ensure that you are successful in this area.

Our church does a baby bottle drive, can we add this as an option?

Sure! We have many different types of organizations that participate. While most of our clients are crisis pregnancy centers we also work with other types of baby-loving organizations. Some come to us through a church or religious group, some are enhancing a traditional baby bottle program, some organizations come to us directly and still others are referred to us by donors who would like to participate.

What is the average annual donation per donor?

Universally the annual average donation is approximately $240.00. But some organizations have an average closer to $300 after happy donors see how easy and convenient it is to give. Remember… donors are in total control and can set limits or make consistent monthly gifts.

We aren’t sure how many people will join – can we try this out and see how it goes?

VBB is not something that works well on a “trial” basis. This isn’t like a bake sale or a community fundraising even where you can try it and see how it goes. Enrolling donors requires them to enter their credit card information and is intended to be a recurring donation vehicle. Organizations need to respect donors by intending this to be a long-term undertaking. Just like signing up for a donor database solution or an electronic giving service, you should conduct your research before making your decision and then stick to it. We do have a requirement that nonprofits maintain a minimum of 10 donors – this will, on average, bring in over $2,000 per year – giving you a return on your initial investment.

We can do our own marketing – can we get signed up for free?

Between VBB, Mission By Design (the parent company), and our technology partner, we have launched over 500 round-up programs for various causes. It's safe to say we have learned quite a bit. We know what it takes to be successful. One thing we can assure you is that the most successful programs have a little oversight. We've created the VBB to help organizations that see this as a long-term strategy and not as a one-time or short-term effort. We have found that making a small financial investment up-front weeds out the organizations that will be successful from those that want a quick buck. For this reason, we do not work with organizations for free. You'll be happy to know that your small one-time fee helps us to assist other like-minded organizations helping children around the world as it contributes to funding our nonprofit arm, Missions of Hope.

What fees do organizations pay to participate in a VBBD?

Organizations pay VBB a one-time fee that fulfills their obligation to have a one-year marketing effort. The initial payment includes a small royalty for using the Virtual Baby Bottle name. In addition, just like other online giving solutions, organizations will pay directly for whatever payment processing fees they incur as part of the collection of donor funds. The easiest solution is to use our technology partner - they charge a flat 10% fee so they only get paid if you're raising money!

How did you choose the VBB round-up technology partner?

Many companies offer a variety of different round-up technologies. We've interviewed many of them. We've done our research and think you'll be quite pleased with the company we choose to partner with. It's pretty simple how we chose them... they offer all of the most important features, integrate well into what we are doing, and charge a percentage of what they collect (NO per-transaction fee, NO monthly fee, NO per-donor fee, NO additional set-up fee).

FOR EVERYONE

Are round-up amounts tax deductible?

Yes! The entire amount of the donor’s round ups are tax-deductible. Although the organization will pay processing fees, the entire 100% of the donation is tax deductible for the donor.

You’re relatively new – why should we trust you?

Virtual Baby Bottle may be new, but Mission By Design (the parent company) is not. MBD and our technology partner have launched over 500 round-up programs for various causes which have contributed to their success. VBB is just another product created specifically to help babies.

What kind of reports can I see?

Donors can see reports for the current month of giving and past months. You can use these reports to for your taxes as well.

Organizations can see certain reports too. These can be used to thank donors and keep track of donations in their own systems. The report will also show if a donation was unable to be processed. The organization can contact the donor to make sure all their information is up to date.

Can donors use more than one credit/debit card?

Absolutely! Donors can use any many cards as they like. They can even register their spouses card to optimize their donations.

Is this secure?

We place security as the utmost importance to you and our organization. Any financial data entered by donors (eg, Credit Card number, expiration date, account usernames and passwords) are passed directly in an encrypted format directly to our ultra secure financial technology partners.  We do not store bank login or account information, credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates, CSV codes or even billing addresses on our servers. So, if some genius hacked our system, we would not have any information to steal.

As a comparison, our platform is as – or more – secure than the donation platform available on a nonprofits’ websites.  In addition, we will never sell or rent your personal identifiable information to anyone – because…we DON’T even have it to sell!

Can we donate to multiple funds?

Yes. But it might not work like you think it will. You can register one card with a nonprofit of your choice and register another card with a second nonprofit you would like to donate to but you cannot split one credit card between multiple organizations or funds.

What kind of control do donors have over their donation?

Donors can make a one-time gift, set a maximum amount that will be rounded each month, and can choose which credit/debit cards are rounded. Donors even have control over which account their donations are charged to (credit, debit, or checking).

Can donors set a limit to the amount they give?

Donors are always in control. Donors can set a maximum amount to round up each month from their donor portal.

What happens if a purchase ends in $__.00?

Good question! Donors have a choice… either round-up $1.00 or do not round up at all. Donors can edit this setting in their donor portal.

Will the charity see the donor’s credit card activity?

The charity will not see the donor’s credit card transactions, nor will VBB or our technology partner. In the donor’s portal, the donor can see the amounts of each of the transactions, but the store or vendor name is masked by Authroize.net and Plaid so it does not appear anywhere.

Are round-ups taken on every transaction or calculated once per month?

Round-ups are calculated on an ongoing basis, but the donors will see the total round up amount taken out of their account once per month, the month following their total round ups.

Are the nonprofits verified?

Yes! We go the extra mile and make sure all charitable nonprofits are verified and a registered 501(c)3 organizations.

What types of credit and debit cards do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. We accept most cards issued by a U.S. Bank. Our technology partners cover over 95% of all U.S. card issuing banks but exclude foreign banks and retail store issued credit cards like Macy’s and Home Depot.

ABOUT VBB >

Virtual Baby BottleTM is one of the many fundraising strategies of Mission By Design, Inc. It was created to address the growing common concerns of traditional baby bottle fundraisers... the combination of living in an increasingly cashless society along with the overhead of traditional drives causes decreasing results year over year. With this new approach, the income is recurring and automatic with little overhead and digital maintenance.
